WHAT WE DO...

In the Works

Our primary focus for the start of 2023 is to assist refugee families in the Austin area. One project that is slated for January/February is the construction of an enclosed raised bed garden for a large Afghan refugee family.

Holiday Helpers

Our flagship program, Holiday Helpers, aims to make the holidays brighter for families with highly limited resources. In addition to filling the wish lists of children, we give additional assistance to families in the form of gift cards for groceries and other staples. We began the program in 2019 by serving 13 families and expanded to 60 families in 2022.

With your help, we will continue to grow Holiday Helpers while keeping the program highly personalized and meaningful to everyone involved.

Additional Work

Through our relationships with teachers, counselors, and case workers, we have assisted families in need through efforts such as:

~  Stocking the school clothes closet with new socks and underwear

~  Providing furniture such as beds, dressers, desks, tables, and sofas

~  Providing other household items such as linens, kitchen items, and more

~  Providing rent assistance in the face of eviction

~  Gifting bikes and other toys for children

~  Building garden beds to empower families to grow their own vegetables

Current Efforts...

SUPPLY-WISE DRIVE, launched in August 2023, aims to provide

durable backpacks and much-needed toiletries

to students in underserved communities who often go without these necessities.

This effort supports the whole-child

and recognizes that many factors influence a student’s ability to learn.

Teachers, counselors, and mentors have shared with us stories of how not having access

to basic products (such as shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and deodorant)

not only impacts hygiene but also

negatively impacts a student’s confidence and can result in social anxiety.

To best address these concerns, our focus is on providing the

products that students WANT and NEED.

It is important that hair and skin care products

are matched for the hair and skin of the individual using them.

Furthermore, we aim to provide reasonably-priced, high-quality products

that promote good earth citizenship.

For example, most donated backpacks fall apart in less than one semester,

meaning that students often need multiple backpacks each year and

more waste ends up in our landfills.

Unfortunately, efforts to do good can sometimes have unintended consequences.

This is why stakeholder outreach and forethought are integrated into

every effort we undertake at C2C.
